Fall 2013
rethink.
Lesson Overview:
I am going to start off this lesson by asking the students how it would make them feel if someone they didn't know moved into their home or neighborhood. Then I would have them think about what it would be like if they had no choice but to move into someone else’s home. I will have the students brainstorm a list of ideas about how this would make them feel and what they would say to their family, write a list of what types of stuff they would bring and how they would feel about being invaded or invading.
After they create a list, I will hand them the worksheet, American Indian Removal and read it as a class. We will then have a debate as a class about their opinions on if they think the settlers should have been allowed to move into lands that belong to the five major American Indian groups. I will split the class in half settlers and have American Indians.
