Lesson 1: Gallery Walk

Summary:

            In this lesson, students will be provided a brief summary of the events of WWII. They will begin by participating in a “gallery walk” which will consist of 11 different pictures that go along with 11 different events that occurred during WWII. Students will then be asked to come together and go over the timeline provided. After going over all of the events in chronological order, students will be asked as a class to try to match each picture to the correct corresponding event.

 

Learning Objective:

Students Will:

            -Interpret what is going on in the pictures posted in the Gallery Walk

-Understand the events that took place during WWII in chronological order

-Be able to make connections between the pictures and the events posted on the timeline

-Place the correct picture with the correct event it is depicting

-Discuss the events as a class

 

Teaching Methods:

-Providing Photographs from WWII

-Providing a timeline of the events of WWII

-Facilitation class discussion on chronological order of pictures

Assessment Type:

  -Based on participation of placing the photos in the correct chronological order on the timeline.

 

Preparation:

-Teacher must be aware of all of the events that took palce during WWII and after with the Japanese Internment camps. 

-Teacher must have all 11 photos printed out and hung in the classroom in a creative way to give gallery like feeling. 

-Teacher must have 

 

Materials:

-11 photos from different events WWII

-Timeline

-Large Roll of Paper (to write timeline on)

-Permanent Marker (to write timeline with)

-Tape (the attach pictures to timeline)

 

Prior Knowledge:

 

-Teacher must be aware of the main events that took place during WWII

-Teacher must know the chronological order of the main events

 

Instruction:

  1. View images

    1. Students will gain insight of the graphic events of WWII by looking at the 11 different images on their own for 10 minutes.

            2. Students will be able to connect and interpret the emotions depicted through pictures with the timeline in chronological order.
